as the storms goalie makes its way inland, the focus turns to rescuing those trapped in flooded areas of louisiana and mississippi. this man brought his family would be safe in his mississippi home which was raised 8 feet off the ground. >> we noticed the water wasprobably not a couple feet high. around 8:30 we noticed it was time to leave a. he and his family were rescued by the national guard. waitevacuated west of new orleans after water spilled over the banks of lake pontchartrain. this m saved with his wife and dogs. they are top notch. >> in nearby plaquemines parish where it first made landfall as many as 800 homes suffered significant damage. the parish president storm worse than hurricane katrina and says parts of pikeman paris that have never been flooded are now under 10 feet of water.

operations were yesterday. now more reports of damage to the north of new orleans and across the state of louisiana there's flooding. we have seen rainfall totals over 20 inches in some areas. there you see some of the wind damage. still waiting for the water to crest in some areas. more details coming up this morning and will check our forecast here and now we're all feeling the impact at the gas pumps. >> the fort hood shooting suspects finally expected to meeappear in court today. nidal hassan is charged in the 2009 shooting rampage that killed 13 and wounded more than two dozen others. his court-martial was delayed after a dispute over his beard which violates our regulations. the suspected gunman in the colorado movie theater shooting is at the center of a shoo

it's going to be another beautiful day today. comfortable this morning. low humidity with bright sunshine. tomorrow, we will crank up the heat. right now we are in the '60s to near 70 downtown. 88 this afternoon for the high temperature with mostly sunny skies. but that the rainfall totals for mississippi and louisiana in orleans almost a foot of rain. in tecameron, louisiana, 19 inches of rain. the slow-moving tropical storm is dumping so much rainfall and causing flooding. it brings much-needed rain to a very drought-stricken midsection of the country and parts of bill hybla valley. by sunday monday, and tuesday it will throw a few showers are way. not a continuous rain or a washout, just areas of rain off

county with more on why the price continues to spike. >> before we get any rain from isaac this week we are already filling the ripple effects of the gas pump. the national average this morning is about $3.80 for a gallon of gas. in the d.c. area is a bit higher. if you have not noticed, the price of a gallon has spiked about 5 cents in the past day. that's the highest ever for this time of year. these numbers are expected to climb as we head into the labor day weekend. call it a perfect storm at the pump. isaac's wide protests forced the shutdown of several refineries along the gulf coast. others are operating at reduced prices. and there's a fire still burning at the largest refinery in venezuela. aaa predicts this morning that this weekend the gas prices could reach record numbers for labor day weekend. so that's not a good sign at the pump. reporting live in bethesda, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. >> looking at the day and said,
